As we make our way into spooky season, we have explored some of the best scary (and not so scary) experiences in town. Recently we have been visiting some of London’s most haunted places, which has us well and truly in the spirit of halloween.

Tower of London

With one of the goriest histories and a contender for the most haunted spots of the city, you may come face to face with an ex-queen, a traitor or a polar bear while exploring the lives of some of its most infamous prisoners. You can also take a trip to Traitors Gate, the Bloody Tower, and the Execution Spot of its past occupants.

The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour

As the sun sets on summertime and we all start ordering those pumpkin spice lattes, its time for the annual reruns of the Harry Potter films to get us into the winter spirit. As well as visiting our favourite witches and wizards, the Harry Potter Studios are running a Dark Arts takeover. This includes the great hall decked out for Halloween (hold my Pumpkin Juice), Defence against the dark arts classes (If you dare to fight off the Boggart in the wardrobe) and you had better avoid the Dark Mark imposing over the tour.

The Dark Arts experience runs until Nov 6th

Thorpe Park Fright Nights

Thrill seekers can enjoy 0-80mph on Stealth, the SAW experience, the Black Mirror experience, the Walking Dead ride, and the Derren Brown Ghost Train, all before thinking about the Fright Nights. Fright Nights is celebrating its 21st year and as always you can be treated to Scare Mazes, terrifying shows and your favourite rides open until late.

Fright Nights run until 31st October before the park closes for the winter.

The London Dungeon

Do you dare getting up close and personal with Guy Fawkes, Sweeney Todd and Jack the Ripper? Does an afternoon getting schooled in Medieval torture techniques excite you? How about a boat ride through Traitor’s gate?

London Dungeons is a mainstay on the Southbank, taking you into London’s haunting history. This month you can visit the attic of 50 Berkeley Square, meant to be the most haunted house in London.

Jurassic World Exhibition

Perhaps not your typical Halloween experience, but I can still remember the terror when first meeting the T-Rex, or screaming when seeing that the Velociraptors can open doors.

You can get up close and personal with all of the life sized dinosaurs from the films and take a sneak peek into the making of these movies.

Running at the Excel Centre until 15th January.

Ghost Bus Tour London

Not your average bus tour, featuring a pair of crackly headphones lecturing you on history. The tour features live actors who immerse you into the ghostly tales of London, along with a route past some of London’s most famous landmarks at night.

Running nightly, with pick up outside the Grand Hotel by Charring Cross station.

Jack the Ripper and Sherlock Holmes Tour of Haunted London

Walk the alleyways stalked by Jack the Ripper on a walking tour. Before boarding a vintage double decker taking you to the locations of some of the most famous executions in history. Finish up with a drink and dinner if you fancy it in the Sherlock Holmes pub.

See it every Wednesday and Saturday evenings

Catch a West end Show

The west end features some thrilling shows, perfect for this spooky season. Visit the Wicked Witch of the West and find out if she really was born Wicked? Join the Phantom in his French Opera House or join the most famous whodunit at the Mousetrap.

London Bridge Experience and Tombs

Head down into the London vaults below London Bridge and explore the spinetingling London tombs, including scare actors to have you jumping out of your skin. This month you can choose from the family friendly show or the strictly 18+ (If you dare). Don’t forget to take a trip to the Monster bar while you are there, you may need something to calm your nerves.
